The objectives of ATMA are: 

• Providing innovative, restructured and autonomous institution at State/district/block level.
• Encouraging multi agency extension strategies including public/private extension services providers.
• Ensuring an integrated , broad based extension delivery mechanism consistent with farming system approach .
• A group approach to extension and requirement of farmers in the form of CIG and FIG .
• Facilitating convergence of programme in planning, execution and implementation.
• Addressing gender concerns by immobilizing farm women into groups and providing training to them.
• Moving toward sustainability of extension service through beneficiary contribution.
